Boudoir Photography
What do we mean by Boudoir Photography?
Excellent question! To me classic Boudoir Photography evokes images which are both beautiful and sensual; intimate and yet classy. They usually contain little or no nudity, erring towards softly lit, low key pictures where the model is wearing lingerie.
There is a related - and increasingly popular - trend towards artistic nude photographs too, which I shall include in this site; more on that in female nude photography.
What makes good boudoir photography? As with all things artistic, there are no rules. However, there are some strong guidelines! And you should be aware of them and break them deliberately, to achieve a specific goal.
The emotional impact of boudoir photographs is all important and the subtlest details can dramatically change the feel of an image.
Here are some questions you should ask yourself when planning a particular shot:
- How risqué will the picture be?
Nudity? Pose? Lighting?
- What tone will you give the picture?
Warm or cold? High key or low key?
- What are the eyes doing?
Eyes looking directly into the camera lens can be challenging or inviting. Looking elsewhere can be demure or distant.
